A year ago when I ran my first warrior dash I had been weight training for about 7 months. I did the race in Amity Arkansas, it was 3.1 miles long in the mountains and had 12 obstacles. None of the obstacles presented much challenge. Due to my weight training I can handle my body weight well and did not have to slow except to wait in line at the first one which were the mud pits. This year I began coaching varsity football so I have not lifted since August. My schedule dictates that I have to lift early morning or late evening. I did mornings for a week and felt terrible, and I like to spend my evenings with my family since I am gone all day. While looking in a mirror a couple of days ago I realized that I have lost a large portion of what I worked so hard for for almost a year. Screw exhaustion, its time to fix this.
My biggest pit fall has always came down to nutrition. It is very hard for me to eat right when many of my meals are on the road or rushed. I often have the stuff I need, but not the time to get it ready. My wife is also an amazing cook, so that can be detrimental as well. I just love food. Another problem, in relation to the warrior dash, is the lack of running in my training. I can run a mile, although not very fast, without stopping. I have never ventured beyond that limit.
Now that I have identified my weaknesses I can plan to overcome them. I made a 10 week plan that I my goal is simply to stick to. I have not set time goals for my running days, or weight goals for my lifting days. I HAVE set distances, if only to make sure that I am pushing myself farther every time. If life dictates a week only have 5 days instead of 6 I will drop the Thursdays. My main goal is this:
Complete this 10 week plan, with a minimum of 5 days a week. And hit my nutrition goals on a weekly basis.
I will do my best to keep this page updated as I go! I am not a body builder or marathon runner, so my numbers will not be impressive. This is only an attempt to chronicle my journey to a better me.
